Well it is a chase that I lost. Kept sneaking up on this guy and he kept going from one end of the pond to the other. Would not let me get any where near him. I got these at least. Big crops how ever.
Well I did the same, I don't want to scare them off. I walked down the west side of the pond and got the shot of him through the tree and then the last as he saw me and flew down the pond. As I walked around the other side got a couple shots off of him standing and then flying. Didn't want to chase him any more then that.
These are nice and the last is special Paul. Look at how tense it is as it stares at you in the first image. You are stressing the bird and it will turn to face into the wind as it is about to flee. That is the time to freeze and wait for it to relax so that you can get closer and it’s a good idea not to approach directly, use a z or s shaped approach pattern.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have been wondering on how to approach these guys also.
I was doing just that Morris. The first shot I was moving at a snalls pace trying not to stress it out. I would move a step and then stop and wait. It didn't know I was there I think until I poked my head up through the tree. Once I got around the other side of the pond it was actually the fountain that was right out in front of us that put him on edge. It was early in the morning and it must be on a timer as it suddenly started up as I was approaching. Made me jump so I'm sure it scared the Blue.
