Can someone who has one of these diffusers for a Demi tell me approximately how large the holes are and how far apart they are spaced? I'm in the process of fabricating a DIY dish and I can't find any specs or measurements on this Mola accessory.
That's a pretty fine mesh. Judging from the way the holes run all the way out to the edges, it looks as if it is cut from standard perforated stock. Whether it is or not, I should at least be able to find something close.
Thanks.
PS: I'll still happily take measurements if anyone has them.
Since no measurements seem to be forthcoming, I ordered some perforated aluminum stock (12x12 piece). It has 3/32 (0.09375") dia holes and an open area of 33%. Kind of hard to tell from the photos how close this may be to Mola's material but it's what I'm going with for now.
Thanks.
Do you have a sample that shows the difference between diffuser and no diffuser?
Not one that I'd want to post, but I'll put it on my to do list. If I don't get to it tonight it will be sometime next week. I should point out that I used a 7 inch styrofoam plate in conjunction with the PAD for this shot. The plate is my substitute for Mola Opal glass...

OK, here are the steps from no diffusion to full. For the no diffusion shot, I still left the snap on (Stofen-type) diffusers on the flashes in order to simulate a bare bulb source. Note that, due to the short distance to subject and low ambient, I used only 2 speedlights instead of 4. The only thing I changed between shots, aside from stacking the diffusers, was the power of the lights in order to keep the exposure constant. Total loss with both diffusers in place was 1.3 stops.
I hope to have someone sit for me soon but, until then, we continue with the fruit theme.
