p.1 #1 · What would you do?

I have a wedding I am shooting on the 29th of Sept. here in my home town. I just got a request from someone that wants me to shoot their wedding 11 hours away the following day... I am considering (ever so slightly...) saying Yes and doing an overnight drive with a designated driver (so I can sleep). Would you even consider it? I am I completely insane? My gut tells me it won't work...

Fly there the night before?
Even if you drove or was the passenger while someone else is driving for 11 hours, I wouldn't want to get there on the same day as the wedding. You'd be tired before it has even started.

Edit: whoops, read the problem more carefully. I wouldn't take the second gig...unless you're hurting for cash anyway.

I am guessing the OP won't be done with the Sept. 29th wedding until late, therefore won't be able to catch a flight at that time of night.

I personally would pass, it sounds like too much stress.

Its really up to you... I just had an insane week: Friday wedding, saturday wedding, then Sunday morning at 3am we drove to the boundary waters for a week camping trip! It worked out ok in the end, but I wouldn't do it again!

Personally I would pass~ too much of a risk of something going wrong, when you are dealing with such a small window.

Yup - I don't think ill get out of my wedding until around 10pm...

I would take the gig and let my current couple know that I would be leaving at an earlier time at the reception (and let another shooter take over).
The reception shots are not the critical part of the day and any decent shooter should be able to handle it.

A 11 hr drive is crazy, you will not be totally rested!
I would take the last flight out.

Don't forget to allot time to recharge your batteries, back up all your cards etc.

I'm sure the first couple would be thrilled to know that the guy they paid for is cutting out earlier than contracted in order to take on another job. Whether or not the other shooter could handle the assignment is not really the issue. It's perception.

Agreed, it may be the perception issue.
We are a multiple shooters studio.
I would arrange for the person taking over to meet the couple and ensure that they are comfortable with the change.
I have never had problems with this.

I wouldn't risk it. Not only are you risking yourself but that brides wedding if something goes off track and you don't make it there safely/on time etc.

I've done this 4 times. Worked out all 4 times as well. Clients were aware of the potentials disasters.
