p.1 #1 · Alaska- a grizzly

Not up to the standard of some grizzly posts here- but if I worried about things like that on the Bird and Bear Forum, why shucks- I'd be worried all the time .
I was in a cage in Denali National Park, Alaska (aka school bus shuttle), and the driver stopped so we could watch this mighty beast for a few minutes as it munched like crazy on blueberries. Even though the park shuttles aren't narrated, the drivers know why everyone is on the bus, and most are very accommodating.
Brer bear was a fair distance away (pic taken with 400mm), but this plainly shows- even from a distance- the shoulder hump that grizzlies have (and that black bears don't have). It's muscle tissue- necessary and used because grizzlies spend a lot of time digging up the earth for roots, tubers and ground squirrels, plus moving rocks around, and other similar activities.

Thank you kindly, guys and doll .
Some on this forum deal in pitchers (); I deal in "stuff," as Ron so delicately put it .
Point of information: those aren't colorful flowers; they're the autumn leaves of blueberry bushes and other low-growing plants.
The location here was very close to treeline- at this latitude about 3000-4,000 feet (educated guess).

Thank you Duc, Chris, Ken, Andrew and Per.
Alaskan autumn at treeline and on the alpine or arctic tundra is surprisingly beautifully colored- a multitude of shades of red, orange, yellow and a lovely paisley (paisley? )).
And even above the Arctic Circle (several hundred miles north of Denali NP), the tundra is covered with autumn colors of low-growing plants. No trees- but hundreds of other plant species- flowers, berries, grasses and more.

What a beautiful photo! The grizzly seems so peaceful and contented nibbling the leaves--not the way I usually picture a grizzly!

Great image. Can't beat the Fall undergrowth in Alaska for color.
