^+1 Also if you want to check how your camera behaves at a few other distances it is pretty easy to just move the camera a little closer and quickly run the test again.

I have used several simple manual methods in the past... but the ease of use and the additional data you get back from FoCal make it a worthwhile investment.

Do I understand correctly, you bought a windows app without checking if there was a mac version available?
Hmm.... quick solution: try Parallels

The Mac version is due out pretty soon. Here's a quote from their Facebook page on Tuesday :

"For those interested in the Mac version (I think there might be one or two? ;-) ), there will be an update on progress on the blog by the end of this week.

Some significant problems have been overcome and it's all coming together nicely now - things are moving so fast I want to wait until the end of the week to give detailed information.

Once again, apologies for the delay on the Mac side of things. It's partly down to overoptimistic planning, and partly to going a step further than we originally thought and making it much more "Mac native" as an application. I've made some mistakes in the past giving dates so I'm going to to stay general and say that you can be sure we'll release *as soon* as it's ready."

Pardon my ignorance (I mean it). What does FoCal do? Sounds like a SW.

OK, I found it on Google. Ha ha ha, I don't have one of those "Modern DSLRs" that can be adjusted.

Still love reiken. To be honest I just like releasing control of the obsession with MA

New version supports the 1DX. So I tried it. It had a very hard time calibrating the 70-200 mk2 with 1.4x III, as in it failed at 70mm and struggled at 200. Also, the 50L didn't do all so well either, which surprises me a bit less. But all in all, the lenses are better off now.

That's crap. Every manufacturing process has a tolerance. That's reality. It is impressive how tight these products are made. I've owned 4 pro bodies and about 15 lenses and never really felt the need for MA. Sure they CAN be built to tighter standards, but then we could never afford them.

That's just our usual Chez seizing every single opportunity to bash Canon. You'll find him saying the same thing over and over again in every single post in every single thread.

Thanks for the heads-up. Will take a good look at this new software marvel when I replace my APS-C bodies in the distant future.

Can someone who has used FoCal with a 1DsIII please shoot me an email and let they know how they did it and how successful they were with the limitation that it has with the 1D(s) III - no mirror lockup?

Thanks.....Pete

I've got FoCal Pro running and it detects my camera OK. My question is, Where is the target file?? I don't see any radio buttons for "Print Target" and there isn't a .pdf in the program files. Nothing in My Documents either. I sent off an email to Reikan but they won't be back in the office until Monday. I'm sure it'll be a "duh" when someone points me in the right direction.

Thanks, Tim

Great program - used it with my 5D Mk II and both my 24-105 and my 70-200 f/4 L and definitely got good settings for MA on both of them. Additionally, I had an issue when I upgraded the software to the highest level version with a licensing issue and I got great tech support - problem was fixed quickly considering the time zone differences. I highly recommend this software if you use a supported camera and computer!

would anyone like to share what you paid??

I find it rather "stupid" to hide pricing unless you include
a serial number.....

thanks

That's odd, they always used to list the pricing. I don't recall what I paid for the Pro version 6 months ago, but I know I was happy with the price to value I got/get out of it.

With the thousands I have invested in lenses another ~$100 to make them ALOT better and more accurate was worth it's weight in gold IMHO.

69.95 (pounds) Pro version
39.95 (pounds) Plus
19.95 (pounds) Standard

So whatever the current exchange rate would effect your price.
