p.1 #1 · A salvage job... (Hummingbird)

Today I found myself without any new flowers to shoot beside my favorite hummingbird. I spent the day catching up on much needed chores. Finally, with only a few hours of decent light left, I spotted the remnant from the Foxglove plant that was damaged during a shoot some days ago. My wife had cut away the damaged stalk and put it in the house in a cut flower arrangement. The flowers were blooming nicely by this time, so outside it went to see if Leatherneck would like it as much as I did.

Winds made it difficult to set up, but after about 45 minutes I was finally ready to go. Leatherneck was also ready and within the hour I had this shot:

This little guy is starting to make my job a lot easier.

Nice. What are you using to light your set. As are your BGs are quite similar, are you using a backdrop? Thanks!

Thanks. I used one off camera flash, camera left. My backgrounds are all trees in the distance.

Ian, I love what you are doing.
If I understand your last post correctly you have an exhibit coming up.
All the best with it.

Hi Chris,

You just made my day.

I'm presently in talks with the head board member of one of the largest galleries in town (140 linear feet of wall space - not counting windows, doors, etc. - with with a 12 foot high ceiling) about an exhibit in 2013. And, since I'll be putting together such a large show, I'm hoping to parlay it into a small tour of the county in which I live; possibly to include the county's natural science museum. So yeah, I'm very motivated to produce this hummingbird season.

Thank you for the kind words.

~Ian
