Tomorrow (6/8) marks my wife and my 32nd wedding anniversary. It seems impossible as we are both still in our late 30's even with three adult children (23, 26 and 29!) I'm not sure where the years have gone but suffice it to say they have been fantastic and full of adventures...not all intended.
I had already been bitten by the Africa bug and rather than the typical honeymoon people took in 1980 I planned a trip to East Africa. Unfortunately I hadn't planned to make this post so I don't have lots of slides scanned in but I did do so of the wildlife highlight of the trip...on our last drive on the Maasai Mara a female cheetah decided to use our vehicle as a blind and ambush her prey (a female impala I believe). I was shooting with an Olympus OM3 with my first built in light meter...I think I had a Vivitar 70-200mm manual focus (of course) lens....And so it goes...
Eric

Eric,

Congrats! Nice retro look for the slide scans! Do you remember the slide/film type?

Big congrats Eric! So your photography skill sets established many many years ago. Do they have ISO at 12800 back then, lol

Yeah, I'm jealous. Even of your slide/film images. Sigh.

Also, I turn 28 again very soon. Next year I'll be 27.

Congrats on the marriage, not so common now days. Tomorrow is my 37th 30th birthday. I only wish I would have learned about photography many years ago. I have also been bitten with the Africa bug . Bruce

Thanks Morris. I also have a 9 minute video that we shot on my late father in law's 8mm movie camera. I didn't process the film for over 20 years so it has a 1950's washed out Nat Geo look to it.. Fun to look back at though!

Thanks Wes. My guess is Kodachrome/ektachrome. In my later slide days I shot Fuji and still have some in my freezer. Although I sold my last decent film camera 3 years ago! I'm sure one day they will be worth their weight in gold (or silver!)

I was thrilled when iso200 came out and then 400 and couldn't believe my luck when Fuji made 800! I would often have to polish off the last few shots to load with faster film or rewind in the dark to take out a partial roll. I can't even fathom how many shots/rolls I inadvertently exposed doing that. Thanks for the really nice words.

I know Don...but in person I'm 29! I still can remember when my South African cousins sat in my parents den and invited me to visit for the first time. It was 1977... The bad old days in SA. That summer both Elvis and Groucho died....ah, the memories flood in! Glad you liked the photos...we've even got it on 8mm old movie film!

Thanks Henrik. My love affair with Africa is deep seated to be sure. One day when I am no longer able to make the trip I have to hope the memories will suffice but I till have a few dreams to catch.
My one jealousy is youth...no matter how hard I try I can't recapture it!
