Much like the Bacopa flower shot (Hummingbird with Bacopa flowers), Leatherneck did not like going to these flowers. It took patience and persistence to get him where I wanted him. My guess as to why he was reticent to cooperate is that the flowers were out in the middle of nowhere, leaving him nothing much to duck behind should danger appear. Backing that up is the fact that he would happily visit the rest of the flowers on the Verbena, which were all clumped together in such a way as to provide protection from, say, a diving rival hummingbird.
Once he got the hang of being "out on a limb", he did quite well.
