Fine set of the little ones Charlie, they look like they must have been a lot of fun to watch and to photograph.

That must have been a great encounter. I have yet to see a wild bear so I can only imagine how you must have felt to see these guys.

Thanks all you'se guys 'n' doll ().
Seeing bears in the wild is becoming more uncommon- even in western mountains and forests. There are a few "hot spots" in Alaska and British Columbia that I know of. Early summer in Yellowstone might be lucky (black bears and/or grizzly), but it's not to be counted on.
50 years ago, "campground bears" fed at garbage dumps all over western mountain campgrounds, and people fed them. Since the reality of "a fed bear is a dead bear" sunk into peoples' tiny brains, and dumps have been mostly "bear-proofed," the furry animals have sensibly left people alone- mostly.
Most really wild bears avoid people- unless they're surprised by them. Worst case scenario- get close to a baby bear when mama bear knows it.
Which was why I never got out of my V-dub. I knew mama bear was nearby when I took these shots, but I never saw her.

That's because you are looking all the wrong places! Out west? Up in the mountains??

Come to NJ man! We got bears by the bushel!
Seriously, they run through our yard. The other year I saw 8 black bears in one day on a six mile drive!

Bears by the bushel in New Jersey! Wow! Who'da thunk?
That's why I stipulated western mountains- I don't know anything about spotting bears in New Jersey, or Florida, or Minnesota, or Kansas. I live in the west .
