Hmmm- having the background in #1 IN focus?
Well, since I almost never set up and photograph flowers, I confess I probably know little about it. But knowing nothing has never stopped me from commenting before,Greg , sooooo:
#1. My first reaction was that because of the busy nature of the Chinese screen, I'd prefer it to be WAY out of focus. Then I thought I'd like the flowers to be centered. I see no advantage of having them off-center. And I'd like the image straightened.
#2. I'd also center the flowers here, and straighten the lean .
Oh, Greg, I like both shots, and prefer the simplicity of the second.

Charlie, your $.02 is like inflation from the 50's...worth thousands now! I keep looking at the vase for the tilt, but honestly, I don't see it. My wife and I moved recently and our new place has room for the Asian divider that her Dad dragged over from the Philippines when he was in the Navy and was in the garage at the old place, so I thought I would try it as a BG. Perhaps another subject would work better, but nonetheless, it works well as a place to drape a drop cloth!
As far as centering is concerned...well, shit, I'm damned if I do, and damned if I don't!
As always, thanks for your honest feedback!
