p.1 #1 · Question - Feisol CT 3442 and 500mm F4 lenses

Does anyone have experience using the tripod with a 500L type lens on a light gimbal or ballhead? I intend to use it with a PC44ns ballhead or with a manfrotto gimbal.

The Manfrotto 055xdb + 486 rc2 wasn't able to handle the weight too well when I last used it.

Recently bought a Feisol CT 3442 tripod. Compared to my 055xdb aluminium tripod it is extremely light.

I'm just under 6'4" and the CT 3442 without any column is just a little bit shorter than what I'd like. Another 2-3 inches and I wouldnt have to bend at all. That said, its a tripod I wouldnt hesitate to carry around with me while the Manfrotto was primarily relegated to indoor use.

The primary use is for landscapes with shorter focal lengths, I'd like to use it with a 500 F4 size lens for a couple of trips every year.

Would appreciate any input.

The CT3471 would be much more appropriate for a 500mm, especially with a gimbal. Won't get you anything in terms of extra height, though.

I agree. THe 3371 or 3471 would be much more appropriate. If you are going to shoot the big guns you have to up the ante. You might also consider the 3372 or 3472. Much lighter, same strength. You are less likely to try leaving it home if it doesn't weigh much.

Look at the PC54 ball head. The larger ball gives more area to grip and more rigidity.

You might look at the high end Benros as well, such as this one:

Thanks for the input guys, I'm really liking the 3442, will read up on the 3472 and the benro.

Was really hoping a 2.2lb tripod would be my one tool for the job, but guess not
