p.1 #1 · Sylvan Heights (warning - many images)

I do not usually post so many images in one forum post on Fred Miranda, but this is an exception. In northeastern North Carolina, near the town of Scotland Neck, lies the Sylvan Heights Waterfowl Park. Sylvan Heights (http://www.shwpark.com) is a beautiful waterfowl park containing over one thousand five hundred birds from all over the world. While some birds are found out in the open, or in smaller cages, most birds are housed in large netted areas of the park that can be entered, allowing unrestricted viewing of the birds. There are large netted areas for water birds from Africa, Australia, Eurasia, North America, and South America. I was quite impressed with this gem of a park tucked away in rural eastern North Carolina. I can only find one post on Fred Miranda that refers to this park, so I thought it might be worth sharing some of what I saw with the members of this forum. All images were taken with a Nikon D800 and the Nikkor 28-300 VR lens. The next time I go there, I will bring a better lens! I wish I had known about this park prior to leaving on my recent trip out east...

Very nice set here Keith. I like the Ringed Teal and Scarlet Ibis the most.
You might want to review your Canvasback though. Canvasback has an all black bill. Check Common Pochard and see if that's not a better fit.

Shooting the ducks at eye level instead of shooting down on them would be so much better. Ed

Birdie and Ed, thanks for looking. Ed, yes, I know. Options and time were, unfortunately, limited this time. There were three other family members in tow, and that limited my time somewhat. Also, I did look for options for getting lower, but due to railings and other barriers, getting lower did not seem to be an option in most places in the park. The images above are not up to the par of many on this forum, but my intent in posting was simply to let folks know about Sylvan, and not to show off my images. Thanks for the suggestions, however. You are right, of course.
