I agree with Curtis, this one is eyecatching. I think its the mix of frozen sharpness and motion, the guys sunglasses in particular. I really like the painting. Almost reminiscent of the Ansel Adams Aspens in the snow shot.

Someone asked about distortion... so here is another version of the brick building shot with the LR4 auto lens profile correction applied;

I find the difference to be pretty subtle... what do you think?

you guys will have to bear with me on this question. I don't consider myself new to photography, but unfortunately can go long periods of time without using my gear, due to other factors in life. This can sometimes result in having to re-learn a lot of stuff! Now that I seem to have a bit more time to devote I want to get more engrossed. Is the FOV on the 28 that much more on than on my 35 1.8? I know the 35 lacks the nano coating as well. I want to shoot more primes, and right now I have just the 35 & 85. Should I be looking at 28/50/85 setup? My main focus on shooting right now is my kids and their events, but I also want to start doing some portrait work and some star trails.

One thing to note right off the bat Ghost is the 35/1.8G DX is only useful wide open on FX. If you're shooting DX crop, then it's all good. A stellar lens either way for the $$$.

And yes, get the 50/1.8G & 85/1.8G lenses if you don't have them. They're stupendous pieces of glass (although I did opt for the 50/1.4G in the long run...)

I have the 85 1.8. So you use the 50 1.8 when the 85 seems a bit long?

28mm is my favorite FL. If I needed one lens, it would be 35 for versatility, but when I have two lenses to carry, a 28 is almost always one of the two.

Here is some older work with the 28/2 AI and D90. I recently picked up the 1.8G as well and have some shots to add shortly...

Alan thanks for sharing your shots! I'm going on less than a week with the 28G as my first of this focal length but enjoying it very much. I particularly like the 2nd and third shots, the street markings lead you right up to the tower in the second one and the 3rd one is just such a ubiquitous travel lounge scene that it could be anywhere...

I've got more glass than one man needs at the moment... but that's just me.

I love both the 50G & 85G. and now the 28G too. along with the 35G DX, just because it's dirt cheap and razor sharp.

Here's a link to my D700 "sandbox" lens testing galleries for those who want to peruse....

And x2 on the thanks to Alan for sharing the 28mm shots! Very nice.

Thanks Tony!

@Ghostinz - 28/50/85 is a great three lens set for people pictures. The new 85 can't be beat, although my 28/2 is on pretty much equal footing with it's new AF-S brethren until you get out to the corners on FX. A 50/1.8 of any kind is a nice middle ground. My personal poison is the 50/1.2 AI-S. I don't think I'll be picking up an AF 50 until Nikon gets around to making something faster than 1.4. The 1.2 is just a special lens.

Here are a few from my new 28/1.8. It sure is nice optically, especially since I didn't have any filters to work with for these shots:

looks like I might be better off dumping my 35 and adding a 28 and a 50. Hell, for the price, I can probably just keep the 35

Yes you could, and should. It really is a great little lens for less than $200.

#3 and #7 are SWEEEET... wait a sec, they are the same shot!

But seriously, that is a dynamic shot. Great color and composition!

My favorite subject... trying to test out the AF-C effectiveness at close to wide open (f/2)... not bad, I'd say I had about 50% keepers with my pup dodging all over.
