The Amsterdam Light Festival with all different kinds of "light sculptures".
This looks like a kind of cosmic egg.
All wide open and hand-hold.

Anyone use it for a wedding reception yet? Typically I use the 24-70 for the fast and accurate autofocus in low light but the weight is a lot for a 4 hour wedding reception. The 28mm seems to be a good size and weight and the wider aperture will be helpful too but it needs to be fast and accurate in low light.

Any input based on comparisons and experience?

I got it from Roberts. The built quality is nowhere even half near 24/35/85 1.4G tho.

This is a big problem I have with Nikon's current strategy.

The price difference between the 1.4 primes and the 1.8 primes is way bigger than it has to be and the latter are built like crap.

The 85 1.8 is 30% the price of the 85 1.4. That's crazy. Build it halfway decent. As long as the price doesn't go above ~50-60% I bet there'd still be a market for both.

Wow, you must be quite the stud The build is far from crap, I shoot with all the FX f1.8G's in conditions
most never see. They're a great value and it's nice to have something light with excellent IQ for a change.
Do you plan on dropping them off the roof, or worse Well, for the majority of the shooters out there I
seriously doubt we'll be hearing complaints of them falling apart anytime soon.

Simon, I like the little yellow frog pic! Nice!!

I am trying to decide whether to go for the 28/1.8 + the Sig 50/1.4 over the Sig 35/1.4??

If the 1.8 primes are built like crap, shouldn't the price gap be more?

Nice shots all. I really need to get my arse out and put this gem to use! I'm really impressed with everyone's great work!

I'll have to agree with Will. The "1.8G" AF-S prime trio are a great value compared to the 1.4G brethren. Sure, the build quality is less than the big boys, but so is the price. Much less. They're still built well, just not TANK LIKE. To me, they're worth every $$$ spent. Fantastic optics, great price point and lightweight to boot. Perfect.

Amazing page of photos right here, really an excellent demonstration of the versatility in the 28 mm focal length... That shot from rt007 in the woods is a huge standout, Dylan's street shots are awesome and 'in your face', Simons shots of the boy playing are a good representation of a subject I've found very compelling with this lens too... Kids playing with enough context to tell the story... Great shots all around. Merry Christmas everyone!

I have to agree that I find the build quality of the 28 1.8G less than appealing, the manual focus ring in particular felt bad. Can't argue with the stellar images it produces, though! If I get any AF lenses for my Nikon kit, it will almost certainly be one of the first I'd get, unless Nikon ever plans to introduce an updated 28 f/1.4.

One from yesterday from the small town of Cupids on the Avalon peninsula of the island of Newfoundland. 28mm f/2.8 AI-s.

Just playing with my 28 1.8g in my basement last night. It's a tremendous lightweight lens, I wish nikon would refresh some more of the older primes to be like this one.

Philip - love the shot from Newfoundland! Looks like a gorgeous place. I understand what you mean about the 'feel' of the 28G especially for MF... then again it is nice and light.

Aleksi - the shot of the guy in the hat is similar to a couple images I have gotten used to making with my 28G as well. I characterize them as shallow DOF/the person really pops, bringing in lots of environmental context, and the subject is sharp as blazes. It's a shot I really like and yours is an excellent one. This is my favorite thing to do with the 28mm FL so far...

Not exactly the same but here is one of mine I like;

Can anybody show me any night sky pictures with the 28 1.8g? I'm talking about the shape of the stars.

I ask because there is reported coma in the corners. I can live with some but hope it's not taking up a third of the frame.

Thanks.

Lovely landscape philipj!
I also really like the diversity of the set here, even on the very last page. I recently got the 28/1.8G, really nice lens and with the 1:4 magnification really versatile.
