p.1 #1 · SDXC support for 1DsIII 1DIV?

Any rumors about Canon providing a firmware upgrade to support the SDXC cards on their top of the line Cameras?

Yeah alas, Nikon had the foresight to support UHS-I for SD cards.

Won't function (does not support) or won't function at max speed?

There are occasions when I'd like to use both a 64GB CF and a 64GB SDXC card writing to both cards simultaneously.

Downloading is where I appreciate the speed of a card.

1DX employs to CF cards. It was a joke for people that think the 5DIII is a pro body.
I shoot 1DsIII with a 64gig CF for RAW and a 16 gig SDXC for LJPG as my backup.
I use 32 and 8 for the 1DIII.
RAW files are 4x is size of LJPG.
Each bodies can record almost 2000 shots.

Thank you for clarifying. I skipped over the 1Dx conversion to dual CF as I don't have any plans on picking one up.

While there are times when I shoot jpegs to the SDHC card slot, I usually write raw files to both the CF and SDHC card slots.

Knowing that the SDHC slot will accept an SDXC card may prove useful. I'm looking at moving to 64GB cards for my 1DsmIII and writing separately to a 128GB SDXC.

A question if I may. Wouldn't writing RAW to both effect buffer clearing times? I'd expect you'd be limited by the slower speed of the SD card. May not be as much an issue for a 1DS but I'd expect it to be noticeable on a 1DIV.

For my needs I use the SD for jpegs (RAW to CF) or as an overflow should the CF fill at the wrong moment.

You've raised a good question that I can't give you a rock solid answer to. All I can say is that I've read that the SDHC slot can only write at a speed of 20MB's/sec so it would seem that any card capable of writing faster than that would not slow it down.

My experience shooting sports with a 32GB CF card rated at 60MB/sec (SanDisk Extreme) and 32GB SDHC rated at 30MB/sec (SanDisk Extreme) has been positive. The MkIV clears the buffer faster for both cards than the MkIII does. Using older slower SDHC cards caused a definite lag.

Earlier this evening I downloaded 28GB from one of the 32GB 60MB/sec CF cards and windows 7 reported a starting transfer rate of 74MB/sec. Towards the end of the transfer it settled out around 62.5MB/sec.

This was using a generic USB 3.0 card reader.

I haven't checked the SDHC for transfer speed yet.

A 128 gig CF and a 32 gig SDHC is all the 1DsIII will ever do if you are looking for a backup.

That is 4000 files, more than I have ever shot in a day

FWI - Delkin has a 256 gig card: http://www.mydigitaldiscount.com/compact-flash/?&sort=alphaaz&sort_direction=0&xsearch_e12=256GB

I normally use 128GB cards in my 1Ds3. And I get more than 4000 files every time. It's over 5000. And twice that in the 1D3
CF 128GB Lexar UDMA 7 400x cards are rather low priced in Europe.
