Last weekend I was able to get away to the mountains for a couple days. On the way to our destination we drove through Jasper National Park, where we came upon a herd of about 40 - 50 bighorn sheep, with a mix of young and old, male and female. The group attracted a lot of attention from motorists, including me. Here are a few shots, taken at high noon (so light was not ideal). A 400mm 5.6 was used for all (I really like this lens!).
1. Youngster - this guy isn't even thinking of ewe yet
2. Young Man - a whole bunch older, but nowhere near big enough yet to take on the harem masters.
3. Getting There - I'm sure when the boys hit this age they are starting to get a bit more perky in the fall rut. Still a bit of a ways to go before they start butting heads with the big boys.
4. Well Matured Male - This one looks like he may have had a battle or two. Still not as big a set of horns as I have seen on some males, but they show a nice, full curve.
Let me know what you think after you have had a look by leaving a comment or two. It is always nice, and beneficial, to hear how others feel.
