Is it feasible to get a 82mm slim Circular polarizer + 82mm ND 10 stop filter from Heliopan with a step-up ring for 16-35 VRII ... shouId I expect vignetting on a full-frame camera if i want to stack them?

I would suspect you'd run into vignetting, expecially at the wide side.

With a step ring and a ND filter, you're looking at about 1/2" of space between your actual filter mount on the lense and where the outermost filter ends up. A 82mm filter is less than 1/4" wider from the center than a 77mm one, so you're not really dealing with a much wider filter that stays out of the way.

You can cut a hole in some cardboard and sort of test out how it will work if you're really bored.

So then ... Is it practical to go even bigger than 82mm if I want to use CPL and neutral density filter? Or just forget it and get a non-screw in one... something like Lee Big Stopper (which I don't really want to do, considering it's out of stock and very expensive). Another option out of the rectangular ones is the hitech pro ... I'm not reading good things about it though...

I don't have that lens, but I've tried very similar and there was cutoff at the wide end. If you can spare a few mm try it. The other option is to go up to 95mm or something like that. Some year ago I did use 95 mm filters for medium format wideangles. A problem is that over 82mm it is more difficult to find multi-coated filters and the cost increases exponentially.

I've stacked a 77mm 8 stop ND and a 77mm slim CPL on the 16-35 and had vignetting at the wide end that wasn't too terrible to crop out. Going up to 82 may not be enough to completely eliminate it.

edit...just looked at some samples from a few months ago and the vignetting was much greater than i originally recalled. From the looks of it, at 16mm it's still likely to be a problem even stepping up to 82mm.

You might be ok. I've stacked 2 slim 77mm filters on my 16-35mm on FX and the vignetting disappears by 18mm.

^Which slim filters did you use?

Hm, I decided to just go with 77mm for now and not the 95mm and see how bad it is

i got these 2

I have tried different filter combinations with the 16-35.... B+W CPL, Big Stopper, and various ND/grads. I get banding issues anytime the CPL gets involved with one of the ND filters. It's either CPL only or ND grads only, but never mix the two.

What causes the banding issues?

I have never had that issue, and I use a CPL and an ND all the time. Both on the 16-35 and also the 24-120mm...

to Ryankarr: How are you able to stack together two slim 77mm filters as I thought a difference between thin and regular was the fact that thin filters do not have outer threads? How can they go together wIthout the outer threads?

The new high grade B+W slim filters are available with front threads.
