Was out for a hike in the Glenmore Highlands, a beautiful part of town. I had heard that a family of GHOs were nesting in the area and, sure enough, found their nest about 30 feet off the ground in a snag at a major trail intersection. I tried for a decent vantage point but these BOIDS are sHmart where they build their nest! So I had no choice but to take a clear shot well below the nest and birds. Neither the parents nor the owlets appeared distressed by my presence. As you can see, the owlets are still quite fluffy.
I returned to the nest 4 days later at a different time of day and, sadly for me, the owlets have fledged. I spent an hour trying to find them in the area but had no luck. Interesting behaviour in GHOs as the fledglings are still unable to fly when they leave the nest. C and C most welcome.
