p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Warbler Migration in NY

Last Saturday I went to Sterling Forest State Park located about 50 miles from NYC. This is a wonderful place to see warblers during the Spring (or Fall) migration.

This is a link to the park webpage:

I arrived pretty early in the morning (before 6:30AM) to meet a small group of photographers who were participating in a workshop sponsored by the NYC Audubon Society. Overall, I spent about 6 hours in the area and I saw more than 15 warbler species. But, as you known, we cannot get good shots of all the birds that we see when we do birding + bird photography.

These are some shots of seven warblers that I saw that day: Prairie, Ovenbird, Golden-winged, Redstar, Blue-winged, worm-eating and Chestnut sided Warbler.

These are the other warblers that I got that day. The only problem (potentially serious) are the ticks. There is a plague of ticks in the woods of NY and that can give you Lime disease. If you go to the forest, please, take precautions.

These warblers are in decline and many of them have been tagged. The "accessories" are tags that keep record of the birds. Ironically, the blue-winged warblers are threatening the golden-winged warblers. These birds (blue winged and golden-winged) are from different species but do breed and produce hybrids like the Lawrence's Warbler.

Nice set! It's always exciting to see a bunch of warblers during migration - I love it! 1 is definitely my pick of the set - great work! Nice job on the worm-eating too! And yeah, it seems like anywhere you find a lot of warblers, you find a lot of ticks (I soooo wish ticks didn't exist - they're my nemesis!)
