The closer their nest is to the top of the cliff, the more nervous the nesting birds are.... foxes!
Our guide told us that some bright person tried to raise foxes on the island. A few escaped, and now they and their progeny terrorize all the sea-going birds when they come ashore to nest.
The last image had terrible lighting, but I'm amused by the "look."

Nice shots Charlie with some interesting details. At first I thought this post was about the Russians Sara Palin could see from her home.

Thanks, Eric.
Yes, the letters of the word "cormmies" often run together to read "commies."
But good old Sara can't see any red-faced Commies from where she lives- unless she lives in the middle of the Bering Sea on the Alaskan island of Little Diomede, which is 2.4 miles from Russia's Big Diomede Island. Between the two is the International Date Line (separation between the western hemisphere and the eastern hemisphere), and there is a time difference of 23 hours.

Charlie do you think they have red faces because they cross the date so often they are constantly confused I know, stupid joke

They sure are interesting looking birds. I like the feeling of the abyss behind the first one, cool angle Too bad about the foxes TFS Charlie!

Nice stuff Charlie, and a good story about the foxes. Foxes, dogs, goats, rats. Humans try introducing all sorts of bird killers to islands (and of course humans are at the top of the killing chart).

Thanks Ron, Don, Tim and Ken.
No, Tim- they have red faces because of all the embarrassingly bad jokes that are made about the jet-lag they suffer because they cross the international date line so often .

What a lovely set Charlie. My favorites are 1, 2 and 3

When will we ever learn not to mess with mother nature. The nutria released in the Louisiana marsh in 1930s are destroying the marsh. Then there is the lovely but waterway clogging invasive water hyacinth introduced at a fair in New Orleans around 1884.

Thanks Morris, Ken and Birdie.
Alas, Birdie, I don't think the human race will ever completely learn not to mess around with Ma Nature, although we are finally beginning to understand and act upon some of the stupid things we've done. Even now, though, otherwise "civilized" nations still hunt whales as a commercial activity.

Nice and interesting collection, Charlie.
I'm going to pick #2 as favorite. I like the BG best with his head.
