| p.1 #1 · Just one.. a Prairie Warbler | |

There is some land through the woods that was cleared out to make a subdivision, but the developer went belly up. After five years or so, it's being reclaimed by patient old Mother Nature. Prairie Warblers thrive in these early successional lands covered with tall grasses, small pines and shrubs, and this is perfect for them.
This morning I decided to do some backyard birding instead of going to one of the local parks. Mainly because it's my week on-call at work, but also because I don't usually check as thoroughly as I should. Well it payed off today as I saw 2 new birds for the yard and got a whopping 12 first-of-the-season birds. Warblers counted for 11 of the 59 species I saw or heard.
In all, there were 7 Prairie Warblers singing or foraging along the path I took. Most all giving good views, and a few close encounters like this male in my photo and his girlfriend!
Thanks for looking, and CC is welcome as usual!
