Get the fuck out. :-O
That is one of my favourites too.
@Rodolfo: I for one would certainly be interested in your findings. Needless to say if I had/get a D4 or D800 (more likely the former) I would try it for myself... no doubt results (or lack thereof) will vary somewhat between individuals and specific situations as well.

Excellent photo.
Can you tell me what ISO and shutter speed did you use?
Thank you.
I used auto iso set to a minimum of 1/400 and Iso starting at ISO 400,
I used aperture priority set at 2.8-3.5 depending on the shots... but mostly at 3.5

that shot is also one of my favorites, he made a break along the side of the field coming straight at me, as I composed I made sure to keep the focus bracket on the rider.
That was the thought going through my mind, keep the rider in focus..
it all came together..

This might be intersting for you that are wondering about the speed of face recognition in the D800.
Would surely be interesting to see it together with sports.

Michael,
Great shots! You're dispelling the myths that the D800 is only good for studio work and landscapes. I liked to 'firefighter" series that you posted too.
Now you need to bring the D800 to Alaska with your 600mm so we can test it on bears!

thanks Dave,
this September I'll be in Yellowstone for about 2 weeks, but the following year I will most probably be in your neck of the woods.
So, I'll be out there shooting with you..

Geez first we felt the heat from the firefighters and now I feel like the horse & rider are coming at me right out of my screen! Please tell me you didn't use a bunch of whiz-bang PPing magic on those? Also you mentioned setting your AF points, did you use a selected AF point or a group in (I'm assuming) AF-C?

thanks Rich,
but no whiz bang pp, pretty straight out of the camera except a little darkening of the edges.
I used continuos af 21 pts, I would select the focus point, which was always on the rider.
AF lock on was set to Normal, which helped whever any rider would cross in front of the one I had my focus locked on.
Overall, extremely impressed with the camera's focus capability.

J
thanks J, actually it was your 400 that got me hooked on that SuperTele.
Since then I had the 500 f4, 500 f4 and ended up settling back to the 400 2.8 which by far
is my favorite.
