Amazing! The last crop looks like the tendrils of a sea anemone.

60G micro is an amazing lens, probaably the single sharpest nikkor I ever used. I used to get results that boggled my mind on my old D70, so the D800E will be flooring with it. D holds it's own aswell, just not the same level of contrast and flare reduction the G gets from the added nano coating.

Bill,

These are amazing pics. Never like the lens length, but the D800 changes my mind.

Holy shit. These are freaking me out already. How the hell did you manage to get this camera already? You stole it
I'm waiting for it and there aren't even any signs of one be in the store. (and I placed my orders in 4 stores)

This camera is just a magnifying glass. The sensor is absolutely awesome.

No, these were hand held at around a 125th at ISO200, at f8.0 and 7.1, with me squatting down to get low enough to take the shot. The lens is the old one with the manual aperture ring - I used to occasionally use it with an F5. I didn’t have much time yesterday and was trying to get something that would be useful to people wanting to see various images from the camera. I think there may be a hint of image blur (camera shake) in the fourth photo. This camera is as fascinating as I remember an SEM being the first time I use one!

Pics like this (with an 800E on order) keep making me think I should pull my 60G from sale.. argh, knew I shouldn't have looked at this thread (especially since my E is X months away apparently) ;>

BTW the detail in the 'tendrils' (?? ) in that last pic look amazing

Dude, that's just pure insanity. Like Gregg B. stated above, this camera just turned the 60/2.8 micro into a SUPER micro lens (with the crop ability of the 36MP images.) UN-FREAK'N-REAL.

Thank you so much for sharing. I'm now going to put the 800E on my long list (as I've just procured two D700's, and they're not going anywhere, period.) I would however entertain adding an 800/800e to the arsenal in the distant future.

You-da-man Bill!

Do it. I almost bought yours, but I had already ordered a new one from Photo Craft (came yesterday.) Funny thing is, I just sold my 1st copy of this lens less than a month ago (mint, bought new.) That was a serious mistake. This lens is just too good NOT to have in the arsenal.

Pull it, keep it.

Tell me about it - keep waffling, but I rarely use it (more of a 80-120mm shooter) and being a recovering alternative lens addict, have a rule about shedding glass I either don't use on the job - or have a strong attachment to (a couple of impractical but gorgeous drawing alts), despite only using infrequently. That said, give it an hr ;>

Bill, the Nikon 60D wasn't even on the list of recommended lens for the d800 camera. And with these photos, you and the D800e made this old lens sing! Wowza!!

loving it,, think what detail we can obtain if we start out even closer,,

believe my bellows may see more use when my 800E arrives,,

imagine we will be finding many other lens that will show spectacular detail that others thought would never work,,

Ever since the 60G was released, the 60D has been underrated IMO. Maybe not anymore - at least for anyone who looks at these pics. I'd love to see a huge print of one of these. I'm sure the detail would be impressive.

The 60D is the sharpest lens in my bag. They can be bought on the B/S forum here for $275 - $300. I have a feeling that your pics may drive the price up a bit.
