This mother has done a pretty good job -- managing to keep one cub alive and healthy until it is a year old. And chances are that this was the first time she had been able to get her cub into the water. And so it really is a swimming lesson -- teaching the cub when to abandon the ice and swim, how to use its long claws to grab the ice and drag itself back up, even once the swimming is done how to roll and slide in the snow to dry off. Yeah -- that's how they dry off -- by sliding in the snow. Must try it sometime after shower! Clean themselves that way too. Cheers, Andrew
