Neat looking bird, #2 is my choice, but maybe a little Noise Reduction on the BG would help, they are a bit noisy for 400iso.

Sevan: Any idea if this can be done in Lightroom 4? I have not played with the noise reduction settings in it for now. Wondering if there is a good place to start as far as the settings. ISO 400 seems to be the limit for the 1d IIn because beyond that it gets too noisy.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

Yes when your in the develop module press 'K' to open the adjustment brush, at the very bottom of the section you will see noise, you can drop it to the left and brush the areas you want to remove the noise, now to see what areas you have already painted press the 'O' and it will show the painted area in a red overlay. You can also adjust the feather, flow and density of the brush, the auto mask feature works too but not good all the time. This way you will still keep the birds detail while removing the noise from the BG.
