I have always used Canon L lenses for my HDR work but remembering the great images I got in Italy using a Canon 28-135 IS non L lens, I tried it out for some recent HDR images. I was quite surprised by its quality...

Do you really believe it is the lens?

Looks more like talent to me.

Nice 'hdr's David...tho' I'd hack off all that empty dark sky (on the 1st. shot) and give it more of a pano look?

I lenses have a lot of properties that arnt about the IQ.

Stop most lenses down and they will perform OK!

Love the pics though, subtle HDR too, were the scenes really over a one shot dynamic range?

Love that scene in #2. I'd suggest fixing the verticals in that one. Would put it over the top!

Thanks for the comments. I agree with the angle of the towers and the baseline but that is what I went for. I am NOT a traditional Architectural/Landscape Photographer. I started life as an artist and approach my photography in that way. I look to find angles and tilt the camera slightly. This may be a silly approach, but a famous artist once said to me anyone can paint or photography a scene as it appears, but not all of them can make it involve the observer. I love the wide angle and slight fisheye effects and do want my buildings slopping off on an angle. I don't want to go over the top but just enough to either get posative or negative responce. After all, that's what art is meant to do, is it not?

Hey David,

These look pretty good. Though I am a bit confused as to how one lens could make a better HDR shot than another. Either a lens is good or it's bad, whether it's taking a single exposure shot or it's taking multiple shots and someone is combining them manually or through an automated process...

Now, none of these look HDR at all, so good job on that.

Thanks for taking a look Jim. The quality of lens makes a huge difference. I usually use a Canon 24-70 'L' F2.8 or a Canon 16-35 'L' F2.8. The clarity in these lenses are far better than the lens I used for the above HDR images. Indeed, the canon 28-135 IS cheaper lens is very good but does suffer slightly from 'furry' images. If you then combine 5 of these images to make your HDR picture, you can see why I said the lens makes a difference.
