p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Bad ink cartridge in 4880???????

Printing nicely and all of a sudden light light black cartridge just does not print. Ran 12 head cleanings; everything else is fine but almost no LLB.

220 ml cart shows a bit over half full. Pulled it out and it certainly isn't empty.

Ordered a new one, but puzzled by this. Suggestions?

I have done the head cleaning bit shown on youtube with the wet paper towels overnight under the heads overnight, which did remove quite a bit of what I presume is overspray....

Does epson stand behind these carts at all?

Chip might be bad on the cartridge (yes you can get a replacement) or worst case scenario is the LLK channel dropped out. Better to do a small test print (after cleaning) than only constant head cleanings which can actually be counter productive. Let the printer "rest" overnight and nozzle check later.

Hope it's just a bad cartridge---it does happen.

The LLK channel dropped out Please tell me more.....

As to letting it rest overnight...did overnight head head soak then one test and one test print each am for last 2 days.. So far no change.....

Date appears to be 022012.....

I have the KLL head back on line.

How did I get it back?

Not really sure....but I pulled the cartridge out and noted that the ink seemed to have accumulated and the end that points away from the printer. Tapped it to move ink (in a bag?) closer to the business end.

That seems to have done it......at least right now.....

The "theory" is that multiple (repeated) head cleans can result in air pulling into the particular channel causing the "clog." The rest and small test print helps to keep feeding the ink.

On my K7 printer, I know there are instructions to "bleed" and "tap" the ink feed on the cartridge, as air can block the ink feed.

Glad you resolved the issue!

4880 is sensitive printer, if the cartridge rests for more then a month, print the auto test (even if it fails, let it be), take cartridges out, shake them and keep it over night. that usually makes it good.
