Last year we had a pair of Osprey nesting nearby on a railroad trestle power pole. The pole was incredibly tall, it held wires crossing a ship canal so it had to be quite tall so tall sailing ships could pass. Well they re-routed the wires after nesting season and took down the pole. They then put up a new pole, mercifully shorter with a nesting platform on top. The Osprey are back and building a nest on it this season. I first saw them on Friday so Saturday morning I set up in hopes of some nest building action. I didn't get that but what I did get made the waiting worthwhile. The female was on the feeding perch above the nest when I got there and the male was on the bridge a quarter mile or so away. She called and called and finally he flew over. I was hoping for some landing shots but he chose not to land on the nest but landed directly on her! Sometimes you just get lucky. I shot a whole burst and then waited as the buffer emptied and slowly got the rest. UDMA 600x card are worth every penny!!
Good to hear Tim. The pair here at Sand Point are back also. The nesting platform looks the same as the one here.... although maybe you can get closer here. I watched the pair here for months last year and have some ideas about how to get some fishing action shots, ... but need to get on the water... want to go yaking one of these days?
Agree with Birdie, no way to pick a favorite.
If I get caught by a fast bird I'm lucky to follow him with my own eyes.
You nailed him with your 800! Very impressive, Tim.
