So, I have been using Corel's Knockout 2.0 on Photoshop CS2 for several years. In fact, I keep CS2 loaded *only* for this purpose. I use CS3 for my regular workflow.

I go to extract a background from a photo shoot on my chromakey and get the error "Cannot Invoke Knockout".

WTF?

I get online chat support with Corel and they inform me that I *must* upgrade to Paint X4 or something.

I am all for upgrading when *I* want to, but to "deactivate" my purchased program is INSANE.

I am now worried about the 2012 Honda Element. Where will I be stranded when my 2007 Element stops working?

Ok, enough rant. What other programs (other than Primatte) do you like? Cost certainly a factor.

I am on an iMac

thanks!

Did Knockout require any online activation? I don't recall that it did. Further, Corel's own product page says the plugin works with Photoshop, so it's unlikely that Corel somehow sabotaged your software.

Try a reinstall.

OnOne just updated theirs - so it may be worth checking out.
You can download a 30-Day trial too.

I bought the complete suite 6.0 but have yet to try it out.

I use channel masking in Photoshop. We don't buy knock out programs anymore. The last one we bought was too technical so we just went back to pen tool and channel masking images. And it's worked very well for us.

Nothing beats Fluid Mask, and it even beats doing channel masking with Apply Image/Calculations commands for really tough extraction tasks.

Actually, we bought fluid mask and for what we do it was totally frustrating to use. We COB sports action from actual games.

some top-level retouching studios that i happen to know exclusively rely on fluid mask to handle the toughest jobs. yes, it requires some learning curve for tough masking; but, imho it's worth the effort.
