incredible.. thanks for sharing !
one question.. did you stage some of the scenes or did you just "happen" to take them and compose as you were walking around ?

none of the pics were staged, the first one with the couple kissing happened while I was sitting in the middle of the plaza. At the end of the day after walking countless hours through Florence the wife and I decided to take a hot chocolate break in the plaza, while the wife was finishing up her hot chocolate I walked over to the middle of the plaza and sat on the ground with my feet crossed and just sat there and waited to see if anything interesting would happen around me. Well, within a couple of minutes of sitting there I looked behind me and saw the couple... photo taken...
as for the rest, I would encounter them while walking the streets and alleys of Italy...

these are wonderful. I am curious what other focal lengths you took and when did you find the 24 was a bit too wide?
did you use any filters?
anyway, thanks so much for sharing. great shots
rbranan,
I took the 16-35, 24 1.4 and 105 2.5 ais..
about 10 photos taken with the 16-35 and probably about 5 with the 105 .
Basically I liked the look the 24 gave me and left it on the camera.
Even when I tried to use the other lenses, the 24 always made it's way back on the camera.
Rodolfo,
You will find that it is as challenging as getting a good shot with a SuperTele.
A couple of weeks before I left for Italy, I grabbed the D700 and 24 1.4, went out to Downtown Miami and took some practice shots. That's when the love affair with the 24 started....
If you want to try
out the 24, you are in Weston which is very close to me....

I'm sure it is just as challenging, if not more since positioning is more critical. That's probably why I've stuck to the easy stuff so far.
I'm no longer in Weston, by the way. I'm in Miami, on Biscayne Boulevard near NE 48th Street. I'd love to meet up and go shoot together sometime. Wide or long, your choice.
