If you open an image, apply a lens correction and then crop you sometimes get loads of subtle criss-cross artefacts in the image.

If you flatten before you apply the crop, all will be good. It seems to have something to do with the layer being called Layer 0, after its been through lens correction.

The image you see in Photoshop is an approximation unless you're viewing at 100%. This is borne out when you see diagonals with breaks which tend to disappear when you zoom in to 100%. This rendering can show up in other circumstances.

Usually Photoshop's approximation is very good. Other times you either need to view at 100% or as you found out, one needs to flatten the image.
