@sb in ak

They were processed in photoshop, mostly for contrast as it is a low contrast lens. The second picture was the least processed of them all. Nothing was really done in photoshop to change the appearance of the bokeh though. It's just a really unique, funky lens. The bokeh in most situations feels very watery, or painterly some might say, others might find it horribly distracting but it's one of my favorites It also can exhibit some pretty crazy triangular bokeh which you can see a little in the first photo but it really comes out with fireworks, as seen below:

Not 'rectangular' bokeh but a bevy of batwings, typical coma from a lens without an aspherical element for correction. Nothing you can negate in Photoshop.

What lens did you use?

It looks to me like it has a triangular shaped aperture and it is stopped down a little.

It's actually wide open at 0.95 there. Stopped down the aperture blades form an octagon believe it or not.

And the lens used for the fireworks shot was the Zeika Nominar 1 inch f/.95 C-Mount. There are a few more samples on the previous thread page.

Yup, that's coma. Stopped down to ~f/2 and it would all vanish.

Sebboh...are those wide open? And how do you like the Rokkor on the A7? I have a 58 1.2 sitting here in a Sony A mount, and have been debating whether to get it made into EOS, or keep it A mount and use on the A7(when I actually get one!!)

yes, both are wide open.

i don't have an a7 yet. i'm waiting till summer to pick one up. i love the rokkor on film and on aps-c, so i'm sure i'll love it on the a7 as well...

Thanks Sebboh..I really want to use it on my 1D4, too, but at the same time, it would then compete with my new love of the 50 R Lux!! Decisions! Decisions! Then, hopefully, I'll get an A7 somewhere down the road!

Hi Gregg,

I would convert it EF (mine is converted to EF) and then you can use it on your 1D IV and the A7. Unless you plan to sell your EF lenses you will probably want to use them on the A7 anyways, so you will probably want to get an EF to FE adapter anyways. The bonus is that I think the Rokkor will have no mirror issues on your 1 D IV.

Thanks Steve! I had an older model rokkor some years ago, and now I have a newer version. Looking forward to it.

Sry for the size and somewhat nonsense image. I probably like it just because it is a just mended seam of an 50 yr old car seat - and I like the car. And the character of the lens naturally.

The Mallard is awesome! Must have been a challenge to get that close on a 58.
