Praise from me too philipj: how on earth did you achieve such crisp focus on a moving subject with such a large aperture
Thanks! I attribute it to luck and practice.
I tended to stay stationary and let the rider enter the frame. The less orthogonal to you the harder it gets, but my keeper rate was maybe 50% over all of the shots.
Here are a few others from that day, also with the 50mm f/1.2 AI-s wide open.
A few shots with my underutilized Nikkor 50/1.2. I am constantly amazed by this lens. Still learning its virtues and imperfections that hopefully I can manage to turn into virtues. IMO, it’s a very unique lens that I wouldn't give up for other 50mm Leitz or Zeiss glass.
Nice photos, however not "Alt" per se (unless the lens is FD 85/1.2 L, converted to EF?)
My apologies, I just clicked on the front page, and didn't even notice what forum this was. just saw the "f/1.2 or faster lenses wide open" and posted. Looks like the OP is cool with the post though...

for the purposes of this thread (i'm the OP) i wanted to allow canon and nikon f/1.2 lenses as well so we could compare them to their alt brethren.

i figured since the question of fast lenses and which are sharpest/have the best bokeh/will magically make me a decent photographer comes up a lot we should just start a thread showing examples from all our ultrafast lenses wide open to direct people to. so post any images you have from an f/1.2 or faster lens wide open even if it's not alt (for comparison purposes). please also post what format (e.g. 4/3, aps-c, FF, truck camera)

canon FL 55/1.2 wide open on 4/3 incidently.
