I just bought a Sigma 50mm 1.4 from the B&S here, at FM. The description said that it didn't need any MA (according to a test chart). But when I recieved it yesterday, I found it to back focus terribly, seriously, it needs a -20 ma on my D7000.
My D7000 is almost brand new, and needs ma with only one other lens that I own, my Tokina 11-16 2.8, and that only needs -4 ma. All of my other lenses need 0 ma.
Also, this lens is utterly BEAUTIFUL when the -20 ma is dialed in. It is insanely sharp, and the focus is faster than I thought it would be. It is the version with the new finish, and claimed to be about a year old (I think).
My question is, should I ask for a return, or suck it up, shut it up, and keep taking pics?

NOTE: I am in no way talking negetively about the seller. He is a great guy, with great communication, and I don't think he misrepresented the lens. Just think it is a case of body/lens pairing gone wrong.
its nice if you have another body to try it out on . if it is not good with another body - send it in for a fix to sigma usa if you have receipt and if you can wait .
i had to send mine in and now its spot on ,no nee for adjustment .they asked me to send my body also but i did not send mine in as they might adjust my camera too and i have other lenses that are all good wit my camera .
I washaving the same issue with my 35 f2, sent the camera to NIKON repair and they are replacing a.bunch of stuff to the camera. If you search my post you will find a list of thw repairs. $310 bucks.
I have this problem with a new set. Sent to Sigma Service centre (Singapore) for calibration. Need to bring cam body along. Process took a few hours and collect within the day.
UsseryG, I had a very similar experience with my Sigma 50 F1.4. Mine is extremely sharp at -20 MA on my D7000. My Sigma is an early version. But I can't lay all of the blame on the lens. I need MA adjustment of some sort on almost all of my other lenses, as well. BTW, if you are not the original purchaser, Sigma will not perform any repair or adjustment under warranty. I was quoted $185 to service the lens when I was using it on my D200. But the MA adjustment on the D7K fixed it for free. Sort of.
