John, thanks, good to know. I didn't realize that it is available already. I just checked the status late last week and it still said "pre-order".

I got my L-plate yesterday. It's very nice, as usual. As a nice touch you can use the cable release in vertical position without any hassle with repositioning the L-plate. I absolutely love it.

The new Canon hand strap, on the other hand, is inferior to the old one and I regret selling the old one with the 1Ds3 because I was too lazy to remove it...

I just ordered it and it will be here tomorrow

. Somehow, I kind feel somewhat "naked" without the strap, too.

Their website is odd. I tried to order the plate, no confirmation, no indication.

I pre-ordered the L-Plate without grip and it is still backordered. At least I haven't gotten mine yet. Will be interesting if it is the same or not and if it really is an issue.

Are the L plate & base plate different where it connects to the bottom of the camera?

I just got that e-mail as well but haven't had the chance to test mine as it is in the mail. Is it bad on the L-plate? if it's nice and tight I will have no problems keeping it.
