Any suggestions are helpful. I am looking at buying a 1Ds II and would like to know if I will get better value out of a particular off-brand or if OEM consistently gives the best value and life.

The consensus here is Lenmore/lenmar is the shiz.
Last Lenmore I ordered off amazon I got rooked with a no name.
I may have to try somewhere else where they can verify it's a true lenmar/lenmore

Hope they still make them.

I had better luck with Canon originals; better fit and more exposures out of a charge.

Kewl, thanks. If everything goes well, then I may finally escape from the BP-511/512 battery design at last. I just had 5-6++ duds in my bag yesterday during a wedding, one after the other after the other after the other started with low charge...I probably only had 3-4 batteries that were usable. Thank goodness my 5D2 takes a different battery.

You will actually be longing for the days of BP 511's.
Those NP E3s are a pita

How so? Battery life is longer than BP511 and I have had lots of BP511s die lately.

Bigger charger,
heavier, the 2 series do well on them but I still shoot a 1D occasionally and man, that thing is a power hog.

Plus I have like 5 original Canon NP E3s that are all dying at the same time.

Oh, did I mention the charger can cost in excess of 100usd USED.

I recently purchased a NP-E3 replacement battery for my 1DII. It's not genuine (I paid 25 $ for it).
It is brand new, but when I put it in the camera, it seems the locking mechanism isn't that secure,it's pretty crappy and very often my camera justs shuts down (as if the contact on the battery is failing). It seems that this is caused by the rotating locking mechanism which is not secure/stable.

Do I risk damaging the camera/shutter if it does that often? sometimes it dies and I lose the last picture taken,or the shutter remains half way stuck.

I know I didn't pay much (compared to a brand new genuine battery) but I would expect it would at least FIT.

I used a lot of bp-511 replace batteries for my 5dc and they worked nicely, I also use replace LP-E6 batteries from ebay, for my 5DII and they work nicely...

I really cannot afford to pay almost 25 % of my salary on a damn stupid genuine np-e3 battery. The price is insane.

Take the end caps from the OEM batteries that died and put the on the replacements.
Fit will now be like OEM. I got 3 batteries from Amazon for less than $50 exchanged the caps in less than 10 min. and now have 3 batteries that last longer than original and fit perfectly.

I don't have any oem that died I have another genuine canon battery that works just fine.
I would have done that if I had a dead spare one....

I just got this new battery because I was having a hard time just with one battery.

Most of the off brand Ni-Cad batteries last a long time. I've used eBay type as well as Lenmar and they perform very similar, holding easily around 700-1000 shots. I don't review images on the LCD so that help.

I agree with 4x4rock. I buy my off-brand batteries for my 1D2 off ebay, and pay 18 USD a piece.
All last around 1000 shots using AI-SERVO when shooting BIF or Rally Motorsports. Never had a dud.

About the BP511, also from ebay i bought 2 off-brand for my 5D, and i get +1000 shots !! Much better than Canon originals. Cheaper too. Never had a dud.

Bought a second 5D2 and first 1Ds II today, so I am selling off my 5D classics to make room. Will consider the battery info, thanks!

Still have my 2 OEM 1DsII cells.

All my 5D aftermarkets are dead.

All bought at same time ~ 5 years ago.
