it seems the 5D3 in fact does nothing to improve upon the 5D2 resolution as everyone had hoped and some had claimed, but on the other hand it doesn't seem to lose any resolution either as some had claimed it did when they fixed aliasing/moire (and it does tremendously reduce aliasing and moire, big difference), whatever better sharpness you think the 5D2 might have here or there is all just fake aliasing and not better detail.

so +1 on the aliasing and moire, a pretty natural look, but -1 on fairly soft for a 1920x1080 video camera

fixing aliasing and moire is more important than improving resolution though IMO if you were forced to chose one or the other though, no doubt

so you basically get 5D2 sharpness but 100% fixed up in terms of the quality that given resolution is delivered at, definitely a very noticeable change

The 5D3 is soft out of camera but appears to benefit hugely from some sharpening in post. Don't look at the SOOC video as the final product. Philip Bloom has lots to say on this.

yeah that helps a lot, and it basically requires it since the micro-contrast is very low even on pretty large scales without sharpening, but it still doesn't make up for missing detail

it's not bad but definitely a bit softer than the true 1920x1080 cams no matter how you sharpen it
