This is a place I hope to visit this summer. Beautiful falls. So is that fence part of a viewing platform?

Beautiful shot in all respects.

Ben, why is this a hard place to do? From what I read, it is a short, easy hike.

Not a hard hike, but there is no way to eliminate the view stand on the right and get a good composition. The area at the top of the falls is usually so badly backlit as to blow not only the sky but the rest of the water above the falls. Its hard not to blow the water and get any detail on the side banks besides the falls.

I have views from every place you can park a tripod and this view was the best. I ended up using one with an angle and FL that cut off the view stand but it has its problems as well.

That's why I darkened the platform a bit. The other thing that bothers me at the moment are the two fallen logs. One can be hidden if you have a strong enough flow (as in this shot). The bottom fall has engulfed it and kept it hidden from view. Once the second (visible log) finally goes away, I think you can get a great shot looking even lower into the canyon below.

Well, I love this scene and would like to see down into the canyon farther. It has been more than 20 years since a quick trip though Olympia and I wasn't aware of all the water features. Next trip to WA, I will make time for the waterfall trail.
