"Wind is believed by the Dine to be present within a person
from the very moment of conception, when two Winds, one from
the bodily fluids of the father and one from those of the mother,
form a single wind within the embryo. It is the motion of this Wind
that produces the movement and growth of the developing fetus.
When the baby is born, the Navajo say that the Wind within
it 'unfolds him,' and it is then, when the infant commences breathing
that another, surrounding Wind enters into the child. Other Winds
will enter at later moments in the development of the child and
the child is believed to be continually subject to the influence of
Winds existing around him."
