p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Shutter Count - High or Low?

I bought my Canon 7D new from B&H about 3.5 months ago. I am a hobby photographer and this camera was a nice upgrade for me from my Rebel. The other day I was curious about the shutter count on my camera. Some times I feel i get out and shoot way to much and sometimes I feel I dont shoot enough. Is the shutter count like mileage on a car? You want to put the miles in but also want to save the engine so that the car lasts longer?

Is this shutter count a little high for a 3.5 month old camera or about right? I know it really depends on the person and what they are shooting and all that but I want this camera to last for the next couple of years.

The main thing is that I love the camera and it's performance so far, I guess I cant really put a price tag or shutter count on that

There is no formula for when a shutter will give out. Even series one bodies fail early sometimes. Just use it and if it fails pay a couple hundred bucks to get it fixed. Really not too expensive in the long run. And no, 8500 clicks is not a lot considering it is a new camera to you. I would most cerainly not let the shutter count hold me back from taking photos.

Enjoy your camera and keep it in good shape. If the shutter goes it is a simple maintenance procedure to replace it with a new one for $250 or less. I have bodies (business use) that have had 2-3 shutter replacements and they are still wonderful.

my 1Ds has about 25K. I have had it for about 15 months, and I have put maybe 4K on the shutter. As others have stated, I wouldn't worry about it.

Shutter count does not matter. You purchased the camera for your entertainment.

Doesn't matter one bit unless you're selling it and the prospective buyer inquires about the shutter count.

My first MarkII-N body: 400,000 pix in it's first 6 months of life.
Finally pre-emptively replaced the shutter at 9 months (470,000 clicks)

As others mentioned. Don't worry about shutter, go shoot.
If it gets over its rated shutter, and you NEED it to work for a high priority shoot, then you can pre-emtively replace it for some $$$, but otherwise, keep shooting!

T-MAX 3200 + processing = $9+12=$21/36 or 1.71 per shot.

If you shot and developed every shot you have take to judge the quality you would have spent $14,512.77.

Keep shooting, digital is for free.

If it's any comfort, I shoot a lot of sports and aviation with my 7D. I've had it about 2.5 years, and I have about 70K or 80K clicks on it. I don't worry about it.
