Uh oh...am i stirring up something here. I did a quick research on the threads and couldn't come up with anything!
And yeah, the "white" lenses are really more egg white, greyish...
The "White" lenses are actually gray and that has nothing to do with the gray market as they were only sold in the Japanese market because for some reason Japan always gets white versions of things.
Either way Nikon is considered the "Dark Side" because of the black lenses.
There are plenty of white (light grey) lenses people, off the top of my head-
AF-S 70-200, 80-200
AF-S 300/4, AF-S 300 2.8 I and II
AF-S 400 2.8 I and II
AF-S 500mm II
AF-S 600mm II
AF-S 28-70
The only G lenses is the 70-200, rest are all Ds. Not all that rare but they still usually command a higher price off eBay. Example 28-70s same time ($1000 black/$1300 white).
It's the "darkside" of late...because of Nikon's ability to shoot in the dark
Not only can we focus but we're despised for our lack of noise/banding at HIGH ISO's

It's been proven that Canon is the Dark Side. Just look at all those sports photogs and all those white lenses. Anyone using a Nikon is clearly in the "Rebellion".
Besides, those white lenses remind me of nasty StormTroopers.
I always thought it was because Nikon was evil, and I was with Canon, which of course is good.
Now that I am changing over to Nikon I see it a bit differently, and Nikon is good and Canon is now, in fact, evil. Thank God I am now on the Right Side.

too funny but so true, poor canon owners, finally get a camera that half ass focuses and they think they're on top of the world, but damn, still stuck with the canon's patented banding

Due to many white stormtroopers carrying white L lenses coming over to the darkside to join Darth Vader knowing that being evil is power as with the D800. May the force be with the D800.
By the time Luke Skywalker from the brightside is able to overcome the darkside (Note: brightside is not the whiteside nor the darkside, because they are rebels), that will be the end of the movie as with the end of photography.
People will than be using some sort of devices to capture the 3D electromagnetic images and project them in free space as in the movie where Princess Lea requesting help through the projection from R2D2.
Erh...Luke!...Luke!...Wait for me!...
