p.1 #1 · Rock on the rail

Hi, this is my first post on the Landscape forum, and I am not even sure if it is the right place to post it, so Fred if you want to put it somewhere else go ahead.

The rail road was found while hiking so it is in a wild area.

Thanks for looking.

Edit: replaced image with a better one.

Edited Edit: I added one with a tighter crop, which do you prefer?

Welcome to landscapes. You have a very artistic eye. Good comp and depth of field. Thanks for sharing your photos here.

Thanks, I actually don't really do landscapes just something that I happened upon while hiking.

Although I wish I could but I don't have anything worth shooting around me so I go for the smaller stuff.

Julian, Nice use of DOF. I like the shot as is, having said that did you by any chance shoot it more directly on to bring out a little more reflection and have the rail bisect the frame at cross corners. I like the way you have both dark and orange triangles, above and below. As I said as is,it is very nice. Good eye and use of DOF for emphasis. Rick

I tried but couldn't get it with out clipping the rock.

I also had to shoot this with my 90mm macro so I had a pretty tight area to work in.

Glad you like it though.

I found a different one that allowed a corner to corner crop, it also has alot more of that dark on the bottom right corner, although it doesn't have more reflection.

Very cool shot. I really like it. Simple, clean and nicely composed.

I really like something simple like this. the shiny portion of the rail behind the rock is a very nice contrast to the roughness of the rock. I prefer the first image; for me, in the second image the rock ends up too close to the left edge of the image frame. Interestingly, the rock almost looks like a petrified toad on the rail. You have a good eye to notice something like this.
