I have to say the moiré tool works very well. I don't have a D800E yet but I had some older shots for example with a D3x aimed at a high contrast / high resolution target (text on a cereal box) using sharp glass at a distance that made the text beyond the resolution of the sensor and it has bad color moiré. I converted the image to process view 2012 (in develop module click on the "!" on your old PV2010 images to convert them) in Lightroom 4.1RC so the moiré tool would appear. Once converted to PC2012 select the brush tool in the upper right and set moiré to 100 and brush over the false colors. Bam! Gone! and it looks great!
The important thing to remember here is that the image data representing the actual detail has been lost - there is nothing to recover. The best you can do is make it less noticeble or unnoticeable, or recreate the detail from scratch.
