Forgive the pun. THis is one of my first tries at B&W. Please critique.

Please critique......

Lots of nice tones for B&W. Awfully high contrast in this scene and for me a bit overall harsh. I would like better eye contact to make the connection here David. With some selective work on foreground and BG I think you could bring more emphasis to the subject perhaps. Maybe the overall contrast is just way too high and there is for me too much sharpness on the non-important areas.

All comments per your request for critique Love the nose/eye/whisker area!

I'm with Karl, its a touch harsh, and you cut off his butt! Otherwise I think the shot has a ton of potential man

I would love to see the original image because I am hoping some of the issues are solely conversion ones. Can't help with the butt, but that is not so terrible although it does look squared off which is weird. Anyway, look at the area of the mane just above the forehead...something is going on there which must be a conversion artifact. What program did you use for the conversion. Nik silver efex pro is my fave for doing these type of shots and give many options with lots of latitude. If you don't have it you can get a fully functioning trial for 30 days and it's fun to play with.
Keep posting...

As for crits... the others offered plenty of advise that I would agree with. As for plusses I really like the attitude of this guy, he OWNS the place!

Having never seen a lion in the wild, hardly qualified for critiques. Very nice shot, but do agree with Karl .

Karl, great critique. Exactly what I was hoping for. Not much I can do about the eye contact at this point; big guy just wouldn't look my way. I've tried to incorporate your suggestions, and I think this second try improves it quite a bit. If you have more, bring it on!

Eric, I have the NIK suite, but this was my very first attempt with SEPII and there's so much I have to do a lot more exploring. They have quite a few video tutorials that I need to watch and absorb. Great stuff.

A couple of lady friends joined him. I need to work on those and get them up here. He absolutely owned it! Check out this look.
