It seems that the bears start moving towards Hudson Bay when the small inland lakes freeze which they do generally well before Hudson Bay freezes because they are fresh water, rather than salt water, and because they don't have the extreme tidal action that makes it really tough for the bay to freeze up. And once the many many inland lakes freeze, the bears can can now make a beeline straight to the bay, rather than having to zig-zag around all the lakes in their path. Anyhoo (just trying out some Canadian on you), this guy is now near the shore of Hudson Bay and hanging out waiting for freeze up. Sunrise shot. He was actually hanging around a couple of larger males, which is probably what he will have to do on the ice because they generally will leave a little food that he can scavenge and he is not yet mature enough to catch seal consistently.
