1. Colors are wonderful. Exposure looks to be spot-on. Poses are super. Composition and use of framing is really good. I like the fact that the little thing is sitting on a piece of chain link fence, which really shows off the small size of these birds. The twig also is nice, as it provides a great "leading line" for the composition.
2. Now for the down side. All seem a bit soft, not really sharp, except for #5. Given the overall posing of the birds I doubt it is bird motion, and it doesn't seem to be a missed focus issue. So I wonder, what lens, f/stop, shutter speed, and camera support system are you using?

Hi Gene,
Thank you for your feedback. I fully agree that a few are soft. These were taken with 100-400, 400mm @f5.6 on a MKIII body hand held. Most are at shutter 1/800, ISO 400. The gear does get heavy for handholding (had flash mounted on too). It was really windy as well as you can see in #2. No excuses though.
note to me - need to start carrying my tripod with me and practice more hand held shots.
