This was shot at the Oregon Country Fair, which, if you are not from Oregon, is much different than the State Fair. These two are from a troupe named "Risk of Change" and they march every year at the fair. For anybody who wants to experience a bit of Oregon's alternative culture, the Country Fair is a great place to take it all in.

Not a B&W...just a very heavy marine layer incursion. Taken at Rialto beach, Olympic National Park.

Didn't have the easiest time panning, still figuring out how it works on the Fuji. I just zone focused to (sort of) make this work.

I think you achieved the ideal amount of blur and soft focus on this image. Sometimes an image can be perfect through its imperfection.

Where are the requisite middle fingers from your coworkers Monty? I take it you are liking the Fuji, what did you do with your Nikon kit?

Thanks Kevin.

I bought the X-E1 for video but found the image quality is really good with the Nikkor lenses. Sold my D600. Bought a D3 but haven't had a good shot with it.

Last week I went to a thrift store and came across some vintage camera lenses. I ended up choosing the Vivitar 70-205 f3.8 (close focus) and the Yashinon 135mm f2.8 lens. Both were screw mounts and luckly my M42 adapter worked for both

First up is the Vivitar 70-205 lens. Although my eyes are no longer as good as they were before I decided to take this lens because I love shooting images on the telephoto side. What really surprised me was the close focusing ability, normally this lens can focus as close as 2 meters, but with close focusing engaged it can do pseudo macro .7 meters which I think is amazing!

This is an unedited, straight from the camera image with and without close focusing.

This past Sunday I took my X-E1 and 70-205 into a movie theater for church service. It was extremely dark and the only strong light source was coming from two Ikea lamps. The camera was set to ISO 6400 and 60-160 shutter speed at times at F3.8. Here are the results.

For me it was hard to nail critical focus on the images because they are moving and EVF on the X-E1/X-Pro1 sucks in the dark because of lag. I was shooting jpeg + raw but only edited the raw images you see above. Also, this lens is fairly long , its as big as the Canon 70-200 F4 but it's very manageable to hand hold for long periods of time.

Next up is the Yashino 135mm F2.8. I purchased this because ever since using the Canon 135L I simply fell in love with that focal length. The MFD for this lens is 1.5meters which is no fun when shooting people but only time will tell if I return or keep it. It also comes with a built in lens shade. This lens is really bad when shooting with the sun 90 degrees to your side. But for 10$ I won't complain...much.

I finally took this camera out for a test today and here are some unedited jpeg results.

And some raw edited photos.

What I'm still waiting for as I mentioned before is Fuji's 50-140 F2.8 lens as well as a Fuji camera that has a better EVF refresh rate, along with more megapixels to play with. As well as a colored focus peaking system (like the X-T1 or Sony A7). I'm skipping the X-T1 in favor of a new X-Pro body also. But yeah, overall using retro lenses is really fun and dirt cheap.

Also, one last thing for anyone doing a photowalk, try out the custom white balance feature

Currently without my 55 micro-Nikkor and 90/2.5 Vivitar, so the EL-Nikkor would have to do for some garden duty. The Vivitar would have made better work of the bright out of focus highlights in the top left, but not too shabby.

I used one of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/400546690268 with the lens mounted via an M39-M42 adapter.
I can't remember how far I extended the helicoid, but pretty close to maximum extension.
