HelenaN - Love the black and white tonal range in the bridge. Beautifully captured with the 14mm lens.

Fuji Image Smoothing (JPG) - I took this at 6400 iso and I think the camera has done an amazing job in tricky light (tungsten bulb). I haven't sharpened it or added clarity though it has had a bit of vsco for colour.

However the skin does look very smooth and I'm wondering if anyone has found settings that may work better, esp re sharpness and NR. Any thoughts?

This was X-T1 and 18-55

Helena - Love the bridge shot, great low angle
Bob - Great shots love the first one with the people passing by.
galenapass - Cool abstract with the little 27mm.

Here's one from a quick trip into Newcastle while I was holidaying in Northumberland. (This shoot was a reward for spending the previous 5 hours shopping in the metro center)

The only thing that's worked for me is to shoot RAW. Turning down NR to -2 still results in overly smooth skin.

wow, the 14mm really looks great.

Also, why are so many people afraid of shooting raw? is it because of the inconsistent processing of the fuji raw files? (legit question, I have my x-t1 but all my lenses are still backordered haha)

I shoot raw + jpeg, when I upload to my PC i split them into different directories and import the jepgs into lightroom. I'll look at the raws if i think the jpeg has been clipped too much.

I also read that ACR will soon support fuji film emulation, like the velvia setting. Thats another reason i look at the jpeg first, the out of camera colours are great.

While I shoot raw almost exclusively, I do not think it is as much as people are afraid of the RAF files. I simply believe that the jpegs are good enough in most cases or more than good enough for most people that they do not feel the feel the need to do any additional work. They are perfect for screen & small print display.

If you print large prints such as I like to do. i.e. bigger than 8x10 you really need to process a raw file to optimize the file for printing I'm my opinion.

Agreed, the Fuji jpeg's just come out of the camera with pretty much perfect color, WB, and sharpening, that except for tricking lighting situations, its difficult to really improve much upon them, or at least in my case, my processing typically ends up looking just like the jpeg version.

Camera's Ive owned in the past required RAW, because the jpegs were so poor, either super soft, or with weird color cast etc, but Fuji really has avoided all those issues.

I sometimes do raw+jpeg, but hardly ever go back and redo the raws unless I blew the exposure.

As I've continued on as a photographer, I find I enjoy processing less and less, and really like to just make a few quick tweaks to an already good looking jpeg via software like the NIK bundle, then share on web, facebook etc.

The days of spending 20-30 minutes on each image are largely over for me

I agree with the exception of ISO 3200 or higher. There's just no way I've found to turn down the NR to a level where I'm happy with the JPEGs.
