Some portraits, still life and stuff with X-E1 35mm and 55-200mm

Pictures are technically nice, only the background / occasion seems a bit irritating (to me).
Was this a movie set or what's the motto there?

I don't understand your question. When you say the background is irritating, are you referring to the out of focus highlights?

XE1 with Exakta mount Carl Zeiss Jena Biotar 2/58... Found some Exakta mount extension tubes to shoot with. About 60mm worth. Retro style meets old school gear.

Setup is about 1:1. Flower buds are 3mm in length.

Well, this is a living history event at a local museum. The interpreters have nothing but the utmost respect for the subject matter. The idea is to talk about equipment, share stories about life as a soldier etc. The museum does it's fair share of American Revolution, American Civil War as well as WWII events.

Don't get me wrong. I love the pictures and I don't have problem with the setup. I was just trying to answer your question because I saw that he/she is in/from Germany

I like them a lot, actually I was going to ask you how to create the color. They look kind of dreamy but sharp with vivid color. If you don't mind sharing the post processing.

Two made today, both with the Rokkor 50/1,4

The first stopped down to 4, but taken only a metre or so away; the "portrait" at ISO 6400 in v. poor light, at 2.8. I like the OOF areas of the first one, and this is 4. The front object is a flower pot base.

I meant to add that the grip arrived today; the best $85 I have spent, I think; a relatively big lens like the Rokkor ('big' compared to the microscopic 27/2.8 that lives on the X-E1) now is very easy to hold. Only downside of the grip is that it has to come off to change card or battery (or to post q. images like these!).

Why did you not get the new grip? They have a built in arca-swiss dovetail and a space for the battery door so you don't need to remove it.

I didn't know there was one, is why! It's OK though; apart from dropping the card yesterday evening to offload those jpegs, battery life and card size means that I would never need to take the grip off during the day.

Thanks for pointing me to the new one, though. If I wanted a grip that had the dovetail, I would want one that has the return, too, for portrait mode (which is what I need in the studio more than landscape). cheers KL

Well, if you are interested in that, I picked up the new grip today (will have it tomorrow) and will likely be selling my iShoot grip that has a built in L bracket and access to the battery door. Its nice for tripod work but slightly bulkier than I want for day to day shooting.

I prefer the original Fuji grip to the new one. The nice rounded finish with the rubber strip along the entire flat bottom feels great in the hands, better than a grip with a big hole in it.
