As you know I'm using the X-Pro1.

My wife now also want's to enter a more serious photography. She has an excellent eye, but does not yet know anything about photography like shutter speed, aperture, manual, ISO, dynamic range, etc. In the post she used a cheap compact camera but she is not longer satisfied with the results. So, it seems clear to get a Fuji, but which one?

I can get here in Switzerland new X-M1 with the kit lens for the same price as a new X-A1 with the double lens kit ... Or is even a used X-E2
...Show more

It may take a while to find a used X-E2. I would suggest a X-M1 if she's ok with no viewfinder. I find the X-M1 with 27 pancake is perfect for my wife. Especially since upgrading from a cell phone camera, she's used to composing on an LCD screen. That combined with the wifi, tilt screen, is perfect for her. I did add the half case from Fuji to help with handling.

Sharing the same sensor as your X-Pro1 might tempt you to borrow it on days when you want to go ultra light.

I bought my wife a X-E1 with the 18-55mm that was before the X-M1 etc and she loves it, up from using the G-10. Makes justifying more lenses easier......

I tried doing that with my wife, giving her my X-E1 before I sold it. When I was explaining the shutter speed dial and how to change aperture on the front lens, she gave me the most confused look. She asked me where the iA icon is and where to find the mountain logo (scene mode). I love that Fuji made a camera that would be good fits for people like my wife, but share the same sensor.

How have people who came to Fuji X from Canon done with the Fuji menu system? Canon is by no means perfect, but their menu system is great IMHO.

Dave

Hi Dave, as someone that has worked with Canon for well over a decade now (transitioning from film to digital, though I still shoot film) I agree that Canon's UI is very comfortable and easy to navigate. I'm still currently using that as my main system, but in all honesty the UI on the X-Pro 1 isn't hard to navigate, most things are pretty easy to find, though I do forget where certain things are from time to time.

The Q menu is almost all you ever really need to dive into once you've setup your custom settings, most of the time I only go into the menus now to erase or format my cards.

I am just really glad that fuji has the analog controls that they do on these cameras, it's just very logical and works very much to my liking.

PS - All these snowy pictures are making me completely jealous. It's still 70-80+ here in California; another hot Christmas.

Forgive me if I posted this before, but I took this one shortly after getting my X-Pro 1. I was revisiting the image recently and I realized how similar the concept was to a painting by Caspar Friedrich titled "Monk by the Sea" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Monk_by_the_Sea). Then I started think about how many of my images are like this one when it comes to moody or contemplative landscapes that include a single person in them.

I figured I'd share it with you guys and see what you thought. As usual, feedback / critiques are always welcome.

I was wondering if this was Mallorca. My parents vacationed there for two weeks and I remember that mountain in their pictures. One of their only vacations I wish I went on.
